Mother’s day is right around the corner! Instead of simply buying my mom a gift, every year I like to plan a day of memorable activities. Whether it’s a pamper day or an elaborate brunch, we always enjoy ourselves and develop some treasured memories. Giving someone your time is always more meaningful than just buying a gift. Since my move to London, time with my mum is especially valuable since I see her so infrequently. Here are a few ideas if you’re behind on your planning for this Sunday:
Have a spa day!
What better way to tell your mom you love her by treating her to a day of relaxation and pampering? A spa day is the perfect way to say thanks for every little thing your mom has done for you over the years. After countless headaches and sacrifices, it’s the least we could do…right?
Take out the family photo album!
Reminiscing on old photos or home movies can bring a lot of laughs and can dredge up some funny stories from the past. Getting the entire family together and having grandma and grandpa bring all of their old photo albums can also be a hit.
Treat her to brunch
Mother’s day brunch is a timeless tradition. Switch it up a bit by preparing your own brunch at home. Crepes and mimosas are both super classy and delicious. If she’s anything like my mom she’ll insist on helping out in the kitchen, but don’t let her! It’s a super thoughtful way of saying thanks and gives her a chance to sit back and relax in the comfort of your own home.
Take out an hour or two of your day to buy some of her favorite flowers and plant them in her garden. Your mom will appreciate all your hard work and the blossoming flowers will be a constant reminder about how loved she is.
Although I cherish my mum every single day, this day is a special reminder to put life on hold, and thank her for being her.
I hope you all have a great day with your mums!
